HUNSTANTON HISTORY
Hunstanton Golf Club was established in March1891.
It is a championship links — with Seaton Carew,
the only one on the East Coast between Sandwich and Muirfield.
The Club has hosted 40 events of national standing, among them
6 British Ladies and 3 English Amateur Championships, the Brabazon
trophy five times (1966, 1973, 1980, 1991 and 2003) and the Boys’
Amateur Championship twice (1990 and 2005).

The first two
champions (Miss Cecil Leitch in 1914(British Open Ladies) and
Miss Joyce Wethered in1922 (English Open Ladies) were, at the
time of winning, acknowledged to be the best lady golfers of their
era.
The Boys’ Amateur Championship, under the auspices of the
R&A, took place at Hunstanton for the second time in August
2005. 256 competitors (under the age of 18), from 21 countries,
took part; the winner was Bernard Neumann (Germany) who beat Jordan
Findlay (the 2004 Champion) 3/2 in the 36 hole final.
The most notable feat, never to be repeated, occurred in the East
Anglian Foursomes in 1974. Bob Taylor, a Northhamtonshire County player,
holed in one on three successive days at the 16th (188 yards)
with a 1 iron, 6 iron and 6 iron. 31 years later (2005) he played
the hole again and put his tee shot 6 feet from the hole!
